A combination of sweet and savory tastes. Gulo kacang is a traditional Indonesian sweet snack made of raw brown sugar gulo and peanut kacang. Most recently, I often buy mung beans to make bubur kacang hijau porridge and peanuts to make susu kacang peanut milk and gulo kacang. ![]() What I can hardly find there is coffee beans, but that’s no big deal. The wet market is where I buy fresh vegetables, fruits, cornmeal beras jagung, edible roots, rhizomes, eggs, spices, fish, bulung seaweed, and Balinese jaja. That’s why I often “stalk” other aunties and uncles while they are haggling so I can find out the prices because I am not good at bargaining, haha. However, it’s got no price label (of course). The prices are cheaper than most supermarkets. I wake up at 5.30 and take my bike there and back like 2 km, but enough to make me sweat. Since I moved to my current place, I love going to the wet market because of two strong reasons: it’s near and cheap. ![]()
